Clean Living Solutions
"Clean Living Solutions addresses the growing awareness of the inter-connected relationships between our own health and the health of our homes, buildings and planet's environment.
In this section, I share some of the innovative information sources and products I have found to help protect us from growing environmental challenges. For more information on this philosophy regarding Clean Living Solutions, see Sustainable Health in the Practice section of this website. My blogs and the resource section of this site are full of information and links.
Here, I address briefly some of the common questions I frequently receive from patients in regards to their health and their environments. If you have further questions please make an appointment to address your specific health concerns. You can request an appointment by clicking here, or call (212) 860-8300."
What are the main topics to be concerned about and what changes in my life can I make to protect my health and that of my family?
At Pedre Integrative Health, we believe that wisdom is empowerment and everyone should have the facts about obtaining clean food and materials for healthy living. Top of our list in importance is access to clean water and organic foods, green clothing and non-toxic dry-cleaning, environmentally friendly interior furnishings and protection from electropollution. Let's start there.
What is electropollution?
Electropollution is the term for electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted by cell phones, cordless phones, computers, laptops, game consoles, televisions and microwaves. In the last 7 years, our homes, offices, coffee shops, and airports have been increasingly transformed into WiFi hot spots. Electropollution is created by our electronic world, from the cell phones we use, to wireless internet service, to the electric wiring in the walls. EMF's are a health concern because research has suggested that cells exposed to EMF's can undergo DNA damage and changes to the way the cell responds to its environment. The research on how this translates into an effect in human beings is not yet conclusive. However, studies have shown that exposure can increase one's risk for simple things like headaches, and to an increased risk for cancer and degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and the diseases of our modern age, including chronic fatigue, insomnia, infertility and depression. For a great review of our current knowledge regarding electro-pollution, see Zapped.1
What are the effects of electropollution?
The effects of electro-pollution on human beings have been a subject of much debate. Studies have suggested that electropollution is responsible for many modern diseases. Whether or not cell phones increase the incidence of brain tumors has also been the subject of debate in the scientific and medical community. Studies suggest that cell phone use of long duration, over a 10-year span, may increase the risk of brain tumors, especially in those most susceptible, such as children and teenagers.2 However, other studies have not shown increased risk, leaving the question still unanswered. It may take us half a century to fully acknowledge the risks of electro-pollution, as it did for smoking and lung cancer.
What are the concerns about existing studies on the risks of cell phone use?
Although studies have not clearly shown whether cell phone use has long-term risks, the existing studies have not been consistent in their evaluation. 1) Few studies have looked at the risk of cell phone use over more than 10 years; 2) studies have relied on self-reporting, which tends to be inaccurate; 3) exposure to EMFs (electro-magnetic forces) tends to vary by model, making comparisons among studies more difficult.3
What types of products do you recommend as Clean Living Solutions?
Let's face it. No one is willing to give up the conveniences of modern life. Cell phones, cordless phones, wireless routers, laptop computers, etc… have made our lives easier, and are here to stay. Clean Living Solutions are a series of wellness products that target the stress effects of electropollution through the TerraGIA™ line of Inspired Energy products. These products combine the patented MRET™ (Molecular Resonance Effect Technology) and the proprietary ERT™ (Energy Resonance Technology) in groundbreaking solutions that are designed to support the body's ability to withstand the stress-related effects of electropollution exposure. What's wrong with our tap water? What solutions does Dr. Pedre Wellness advocate?
As a resident of New York City and an activist for clean drinking water and environmentally responsible living, I have assumed an active role in protecting our environment and helping to ensure clean drinking water for our children. Although New York City water is known to be among the country's best, in our New York office, we have opted for a sophisticated filtration system designed in Japan that filters out all impurities, including chlorine and drug metabolites, from regular tap water and adds back important minerals. This system makes the chlorinated drinking water from New York City's tap into a much cleaner and greener alternative to bottled water. In effect, this has replaced the weekly water bottle deliveries. This new system is better for the environment, saves in plastic bottle waste, and combats global warming by reducing truck deliveries. The PiMag Water Technology employs a high-tech, multiple-stage filtration system based on natural materials such as magnetic technology and ceramic elements that impart minerals to the water that were found to be beneficial to health and well-being. For more information about this technology, and how it could improve your life, click here.

Organic food is seemingly more expensive and many supermarkets don't carry it. Why should we seek it out?
Food is Medicine! One of my hobbies and loves is cooking healthy meals, and I feel that purchasing organic foods from Farmer's Markets or Community Supported Agriculture strengthens our commitment to non-polluting farming practices and the local small business community. C rops being grown as GMO (Genetically-Modified Organisms) pose potential dangers to our health that may far outweigh the benefits offered to farmers in pest control. So I encourage people to become aware of their food purchasing habits to support Sustainable Health. Cooking together, then sitting down together for a shared mealtime with family and friends is a healthy practice that improves the health of the entire family and community.
For more information on which are the cleanest organic and non-organic produce to buy, see the Environmental Working Group's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides.
Paint fumes and new items made from plastic can be a headache, what can we do to keep our air clean and stay free of allergies and respiratory problems?
At Dr. Pedre Wellness, we believe that reducing our exposure to known air-borne toxicants is another way to improve health and well-being.
Our office is designed to support patient wellness through the materials used such as, sustainable wood floors made from bamboo (a fast-growing, easily replaceable source for wood floors), low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints to reduce toxic exposure, low-VOC wood (no formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, as is found in treated wood laminates), and no new rugs (which can outgas over 200 volatile organic compounds, many of which are respiratory irritants).
For a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter air purifier, we recommend two excellent brands: IQAir and Blueair HEPA filters help remove tiny particles from the air that can make allergies and asthma worsen. If you are to choose one room in your home where you should place a HEPA filter air purifier, it should be the room that you spend the most time in. For most people, this would be the bedroom.
So in summary, what is Clean Living all about?
Clean Living is not just about what we don't do and replace, it is about what we add to our spaces and how these elements affect us physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our offices are designed with the patients' well-being in mind by creating an atmosphere that feels like home, rather than a sterile medical space. We accomplish this by using soothing colors and sounds (that invoke a feeling of health and create a welcome retreat from the city), scented aromatherapy candles (to induce relaxation), non-linear surfaces in the waiting room (to create a feeling of softness and flow), and high ceilings (instead of drop-down, to create a feeling of openness that helps reduce anxiety).
